Cristina Yen

Having spent her childhood in two cacao-producing countries, Ecuador and Brazil, it’s not surprising that Cristina Yen’s lifelong passion for sweets and chocolate began at an early age. As the daughter of a Taiwanese diplomat, she also acquired diverse international and cultural fascinations, which eventually led to her master’s degree in Latin American studies at The George Washington University. She remained in D.C. after graduation to work on corporate governance issues in South American and European markets, and later as Project Manager for a boutique international business-consulting firm.

Over time, a path became clear that combined Cristina’s intense interest in people and cultures with her lifelong passion for chocolate. After relocating to Portland with her husband in 2006, Cristina earned a degree in the baking and patisserie program at Le Cordon Bleu. Two years later she worked at the famed patisserie shop Fauchon in Paris before spending a year as manager of The Meadow, a family-owned shop specializing in salt, chocolate, wine and flowers in Portland. Now, having launched A Yen for Chocolate, her passion is creating perfect chocolate experiences for others.
